Download GuideA local move is one in which the travel distance is 240km or less. The cost of a local move is charged by the hour, depending on the sizeof the van, the number of movers employed on the move, plus the cost of extra services, such as packing, storage, valuation, etc. Charges are based on the actual time on the job, plus the driving time between your residence and our office. Preparation before the move is your key to keeping moving costs down.
Arrangements for a local move are normally made during an in-home visit by one of our move consultants. They should be made at least two or three weeks before you wish to move. If you wish to move during a peak period, please make arrangements as far in advance as possible because during those periods, movers are booked to capacity.
Peak periods include school holiday months, as well as mid-month and month end.
Because many moves take place during those periods, a delay on one move during that day may disrupt the timing for later moves scheduled for the van. As an example, delays can be caused by difficulty obtaining keys due to multiple house closings on the same day. Because this slows the move down, it adds to the cost.
We realize that you don’t always have the choice of when to move. If you do, however, and to avoid the possibility of a delay during your move, we recommend that you select a day that doesn’t fall within a peak period.
