Moving You Since '72

A long-distance move typically refers to any relocation of 240Km or more. This type of move often involves crossing provincial or federal lines and requires more extensive planning compared to a local move.

What is a long-distance move?

Long-distance moves are those where charges are based on shipment weight, distance, and method of transport. These are typically more involved processes, and so it’s important to choose a company that offers specialized services like packing, storage, and logistics to accommodate the complexities of transporting belongings over such vast distances.

Long-Distance move logistics.

Arrangements for a long-distance move are normally made during an in-home visit by one of our move consultants. They should be made at least three to four weeks before you wish to move. If you wish to move during a peak period, please make arrangements as far in advance as possible because during those periods, movers are booked to capacity.

Long-distance moves begin with an in-house consultation to better understand what you’re moving, whether you wish for your belongings to be stored in between transit, and what additional services you might need. At the end of your in-house consultation, you will receive a guaranteed written estimate based on the weight of your belongings and distance of your move. This means that if your move ends up costing less than the quote, you will get the difference back.

This helps you plan for your move, ensuring there are no surprises along the way.

USA / Overseas Moving

Taking the stress out of a move to the United States

Moving to the United States requires a good understanding of your responsibilities, documentation requirements, and what to expect at Canada/U.S. Customs in order to avoid unnecessary delays and/or having your shipment held up at the border. Did you know that when you move from Canada to the U.S. it is not necessary for you to be present when your goods cross the border? You must, however, enter the U.S. and declare your residency before your shipment can be admitted. Both countries have specific regulations regarding the items you can or can't import and a list of items that are prohibited.

To help you achieve a successful move, your United Moving Consultant will not only provide you with all necessary Customs forms, but provide guidance on how to accurately complete them. Please take extra care to ensure that passports, birth certificates, photo IDs and social insurance/security numbers for each family member crossing the border are up to date.
